The Vietnamese delegation, headed by Dr. Nguyen The Phuong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, paid a visit to Korea from Nov. 29 to Dec. 4 to participate in the Interim Reporting and Policy Practitioners¡¯ Workshop hosted by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF) of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Development Institute (KDI).

The delegation, mainly comprised of public officials and local experts taking part as researchers in the Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) for Vietnam, attended the Interim Reporting Workshop held at KDI on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 to share and discuss the interim research results with the Korean researchers on five consultation areas: 1) macroeconomic policies; 2) monetary and financial policies; 3) nationwide land use policies; 4) industrial technology development policies; and 5) enterprise policies.

Following the 2-day workshop, the Vietnamese delegates were divided into five groups according to their areas of expertise and interests to participate in knowledge sharing activities at relevant ministries and institutions such as MOSF, KDI, the Bank of Korea, Financial Supervisory Services, Financial Services Commission, Science and Technology Policy Institute, Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, Korea Land & Housing Corporation, National Credit Union Federation of Korea, Gyeonggi Technopark, Korea Institute of Energy Research, and Daedeok Innopolis.

In addition, MPI¡¯s Vice Minister Nguyen The Phuong met with MOSF¡¯s Vice Minister Hur Kyung-Wook on Dec. 2 to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Korea and Vietnam and improve the KSP for Vietnam.

The Senior Policy Dialogue and Final Reporting Workshop, the final stages of the 2009-2010 KSP cycle for Vietnam, are scheduled to take place in Hanoi in the first quarter of next year. The final reporting workshop, in particular, will provide an opportunity for both Korean and Vietnamese researchers to present their final research results to relevant Vietnamese policymakers so as for them to be reflected in the formulation of Vietnam¡¯s mid- to long-term socio-economic development policies in mid-2010.
